Program Director - Nutrition, Tata Trusts Social Alpha
India has an abysmal record of malnutrition in children under five years of age. Children with malnutrition begin their lives with a remarkable drawback. They are destined to develop into uneducated, poor, un-healthy adults; provide poor care for their own children, and end up transmitting poverty to the next generation. There is an urgent need for addressing malnutrition in India but given that overall nutrition is affected by ‘nutrition specific’ as well as ‘nutrition sensitive’ factors, it is important that actors working in different sectors that impact nutrition, come together to collectively address this problem. Tata Trusts and AVPN are jointly launching a multi-sectoral alliance that will have actors from all the sectors that impact nutrition, directly or indirectly. The alliance will have active short and long term goals with each actor assuming accountability for a tangible outcome for his part of the role in the larger goal.
In this session the speakers will discuss the possible ways of collaborating to address malnutrition in India; the challenges in nutrition program implementation; and how the multi-sectoral efforts can be leveraged for a cohesive impact.
- How are social investors addressing malnutrition through their interventions in WASH, Food Security, Behavioural Change and Communication, Healthcare and Gender equality?
- What are some of the challenges in achieving the nutritional goals through programmatic implementation?
