Mr. Rakesh Ranjan is Adviser in Niti Aayog which is a premier policy making body at national level. He has keen interest in development issue. He is post graduate from Delhi School of economics and Gold medallist in one year Post Graduate Programme on Public Policy and Management from IIM Ahmedabad. From 2009 to 2016 he has served in Planning Commission and as Joint Secretary was one of the officers who saw transition of Planning Commission to Niti Aayog. He has worked in Infrastructure and urban sector and has worked towards shaping an urban strategy and provision of infrastructure like metro rail projects in India. He is recipient of Emerging Leaders Fellowship of Australia-India Institute under Melbourne Institute.
Mr. Rakesh Ranjan is coordinator of Aspirational District programme which aims at rapid transformation of identified backward districts in India. This programme is perhaps one of the largest programme of transition towards data based governance where districts are being ranked on the basis of real time data. He is also heading a team on creation of a federal level knowledge portal and development of ‘Ease of living Index.’
Originally an officer of the Indian Police service, he has extensive tenure and knowledge in combating militancy in North East India and Jammu and Kashmir. He has received Presidents’ Police medal for meritorious Service in 2007 and President’s medal for Distinguished Service in 2016.
